Schoolhouse Basketry (PEC Basketry)

Share Share on FacebookShare on Twitter Share on Linkedin

Master Weaver Melissa Shew-Sherman works out of her quaint, historical 1800s one room schoolhouse in Carrying Place. Melissa grew up in Pennsylvania and comes from a lineage of textile weavers. There are 17 master weavers in her genealogy, the most famous being Jacob Angstadt, author of The Weavers Patron Book in the 1700’s. Although Melissa has worked with and taught natural materials, her passion lies in the recreation of functional baskets of the early settlement periods.
