Ameliasburgh
Ameliasburgh is the largest ward in The County. It is home to the villages of Consecon, Carrying Place, Rednersville, Rossmore and the namesake village of Ameliasburgh.
Ameliasburgh is named after Princess Amelia, the 15th child of King George III. It meets the Bay of Quinte to the north, cradles Consecon Lake to the south and encompasses Roblin Lake. This was a thriving hub in the 1800s thanks to a grist and flour mill that now lives at Black Creek Pioneer Village.
If you are traveling from the west through Brighton or Quinte West, you’ll cross the Murray Canal. This 8km waterway disconnected The County from the mainland in 1889, making The County an island. If you’re coming through Belleville, the bridge across the Bay of Quinte connects to Ameliasburgh.
What’s there to do? Pop into the Ameliasburgh Heritage Museum. Visit the up-and-coming village of Consecon. Visit a sugarbush in the winter or a pumpkin patch in the fall. Go for a drive. The area has no shortage of maple trees, studios and galleries, island shoreline, and historic significance to explore. Eating in this area is an exciting mix of chef-driven pop-ups, hometown cooking, roadside food trucks, and farm stand delicacies.
