Sophiasburgh
Sophiasburgh is one of the three original townships that formed Prince Edward County in the late 1700s. Sophiasburgh (pronounced Sof-EYE-ahs-burgh) boasts the Bay of Quinte shoreline and connects to the Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory via the Skyway Bridge. County Road 49 is the straight-shot connection between The County and the 401. As you drive in from Kingston, Ottawa, Montréal and Québec try not to get distracted by the views of Picton Bay.
This area has surprises around every corner. It’s dotted with settlements on Big Island, in Demorestville, Northport and surrounding Fish Lake. Sophiasburgh is thriving with farmers, musicians, and shoreline resorts. Savour the region at roadside stands, tasting rooms and small shops. You’ll find everything local from wine, to jam, fresh-caught fish, honey and even County-made kimchi.
